Year 3 marks an exciting step into Key Stage 2, where children become increasingly independent learners and develop greater confidence across the curriculum. Throughout the year, pupils explore a range of fascinating topics that encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.

From discovering the power of volcanoes and earthquakes to investigating life in the Stone Age, exploring Antarctica, learning about the Romans and travelling through time to Ancient Egypt, children engage in memorable learning experiences that bring the curriculum to life.

Our class is named after Roald Dahl, one of the world's most celebrated children's authors. His imaginative stories, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG and James and the Giant Peach, continue to inspire generations of readers through their humour, adventure and unforgettable characters.

Our Year 3 team is dedicated to creating a happy, supportive and engaging learning environment where every child feels valued, challenged and encouraged to achieve their very best.

Together, we work hard to ensure that children develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning as they begin their Key Stage 2 journey.

Useful Information

PE takes place every Wednesday.
Children should come to school in their PE kit on PE days.
Reading books and reading records should be brought into school every day.
Children are encouraged to read regularly at home and discuss their books with an adult.
Regular practice of times tables using Times Tables Rock Stars will support learning across the curriculum.
Homework, class updates and important reminders will be shared through the Year 3 Padlet.

Our Learning

Throughout Year 3, pupils engage in an exciting curriculum that develops their knowledge, skills and understanding across a wide range of subjects.

Children explore volcanic landscapes, journey back to the Stone Age, investigate life in Antarctica, discover the impact of the Roman Empire, learn how settlements have changed over time and uncover the mysteries of Ancient Egypt. Through practical investigations, educational visits, creative projects and collaborative learning, pupils develop resilience, curiosity and a passion for learning.

Our curriculum encourages children to become reflective learners who ask questions, solve problems and make meaningful connections between different areas of learning.

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and supports learning in every subject. Through whole-class reading, guided reading and independent reading opportunities, children encounter a range of engaging texts that inspire discussion, develop vocabulary and support their writing.
